Jets Select LSU Tight End Mason Taylor with 42nd Overall Pick

The New York Jets bolstered their offense in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting LSU tight end Mason Taylor with the 42nd overall pick. This move addresses a significant need at the tight end position, especially following the departure of Tyler Conklin in free agency.

Standing at 6’5″ and weighing 251 pounds, Taylor is the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, who played for the Jets in 2010. During his three-year tenure at LSU, Mason Taylor set a school record for tight ends with 55 receptions in a single season and became the only tight end in LSU history to surpass 100 career receptions and 1,000 receiving yards.

NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein described Taylor as “an ascending tight end with plus catch talent and Hall of Fame bloodlines,” noting his smooth athleticism and potential to become a higher-volume target as he refines his route-running skills.

Taylor joins a tight end group that includes Jeremy Ruckert, free-agent addition Stone Smartt, along with Zack Kuntz and Neal Johnson. His addition is expected to provide quarterback Justin Fields with a reliable target and enhance the team’s offensive versatility.
