Jets unveil 'stealth black' alternate helmets for 2022

Several NFL teams have rolled out alternate helmets for the 2022 season, and the New York Jets joined the fray Friday with a "stealth black helmet."

The matte black helmet with chrome green face mask will be worn during home games against the New England Patriots, Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars, the team announced.

"We have the best alternate helmet in the league," Jets running back Michael Carter said, via NewYorkJets.com. "The Jets Fam is going to love it, and I'm so excited and blessed to help unveil it."

The Jets have gone through several different helmets over the last six decades, beginning with a navy helmet with a single gold stripe down the middle during the team's days as the New York Titans. Green became a primary color for the team when it became the Jets in 1963. The team went through several more iterations before its most recent facelift in 2019.

The recent trend of alternate helmets was made possible by a rule change during the 2021 offseason that goes into effect during the 2022 regular season.
