Jets WR Garrett Wilson welcomes potential Davante Adams trade

Earlier this week, New York Jets cornerback D.J. Reed dismissed the idea that young Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson would have a problem with the club acquiring Las Vegas Raiders star Davante Adams before the Nov. 5 trade deadline.

Wilson spoke with reporters on Friday and indicated he'd happily share a locker room with Adams if doing so got the Jets closer to their ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl.

"Yeah, that’d be cool man," Wilson said about New York possibly trading for Adams, as shared by Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "I feel like it’s cool if we can get him over here. Like I always say, 'If someone can help us win, let’s do it.' Right on."

ESPN stats show that Wilson, the 10th overall pick of the 2022 draft, finished his first two pro seasons as New York's leading receiver. While the 24-year-old currently leads the 2024 Jets with 20 receptions and 34 targets, Allen Lazard heads into the weekend responsible for a team-best 206 receiving yards on the campaign.

Lazard first played alongside Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers from 2018-22, while Adams was Rodgers' teammate in Green Bay from 2014-21. Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio speculated on Thursday that Wilson could become the "odd man out" in the New York passing attack if Rodgers has both Lazard and Adams as weapons later this fall.

On Thursday evening, NFL/Jets insider Connor Hughes of SNY reported that "most around the league" believe that "a deal sending Adams to New York will happen" ahead of next month's trade deadline. Meanwhile, Wilson will become eligible to sign a contract extension next offseason and theoretically, could ask the Jets for a trade if he becomes unsettled between now and the end of the ongoing campaign.

Rodgers and Wilson will look to put their supposed chemistry issues behind them and produce touchdown drives when the 2-2 Jets take on the 4-0 Minnesota Vikings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London this Sunday. Even if Gang Green wins that game, it's assumed Rodgers will push general manager Joe Douglas to do whatever is necessary to get Adams to Florham Park in the coming days and weeks.
