Jim Harbaugh Provides Latest Update On DJ Chark’s Injury

Wide Receiver DJ Chark joined the Los Angeles Chargers in May of this offseason as a free agent. After a promising training camp, he was seen as the potential WR1 in this new Justin Herbert-led offense.

Unfortunately, a hip injury derailed that and he was put on IR before the season started, forcing him to miss the team’s first 4 games, at minimum.

After the bye, there was hope that his 21-day practice window would open and he would return to the team. But, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh, it is not expected that Chark’s 21-day window will open today.

Can DJ Chark Spark The Los Angeles Chargers Offense?

Through 4 games, the Los Angeles Chargers have one of the worst passing offenses in the NFL, and this is with superstar QB Justin Herbert. The Chargers rank 2nd to last, averaging 136 passing yards per game.

Some of this can be attributed to the offensive line being banged up. There can also be fault found in Justin Herbert dealing with a high ankle sprain for most of the season. The biggest culprit is most likely the new run-heavy scheme that OC Greg Roman has deployed.

But there is something to be said for the drop-off in receiver talent. Rookie Ladd McConkey is probably viewed as WR1 with Quentin Johnston and Joshua Palmer coming in as WR2 and WR3. Only McConkey and Johnston have over 100 yards receiving through 4 weeks of play. With Justin Herbert at QB, that is really concerning.

Chark’s best season came in 2019 for the Jacksonville Jaguars where he finished with 1,008 yards receiving and 8 touchdowns. He was never expected to replicate that with the Chargers, but when he is able to get back on the field he will certainly bring a veteran presence and some much-needed experience to the room.

Looks like we will have to wait for the moment a little bit longer.
