J.K. Dobbins signed a 1-year, $5.25 million contract to join the Denver Broncos. Dobbins has dealt with many injuries in his career, and he now joins a crowded but inexperienced Broncos’ running back room. What is Dobbins’ fantasy football outlook on the Broncos, and how is RJ Harvey’s outlook affected?

Dobbins has struggled with injuries since his second season in the NFL. He missed the entire 2021 season, played eight games in 2022, and only one game in 2023. He rebounded in 2024 with the Chargers, playing in 13 games. Dobbins had 195 carries for 905 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns in a split backfield with Gus Edwards after they both came over from the Ravens.
The Broncos used a running back by committee last season, with Javonte Williams taking the lead over Audric Estime and Jaleel McLaughlin. Williams finished as the RB30, Estime the RB67, and McLaughlin the RB45. It was hard to trust any of the three of them in fantasy football last season. Williams only had three top-20 weekly finishes last season, while the other two backs had none. This was a backfield to avoid.
Williams left in free agency to join the Cowboys, while the Broncos drafted RJ Harvey in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Harvey has been one of fantasy managers’ favorite draft selections of the offseason, but his stock takes a hit with the Broncos signing Dobbins.
Just like in 2024, the Broncos backfield will be one to avoid in 2025. Head coach Sean Payton loves using multiple running backs, and he has four guys whom he can use this year. Expect them all to play a role in the offense. If there is one player to take a shot on in redraft leagues, it would be the rookie, Harvey. Harvey has the highest upside among any of them, and the Broncos used a second-round pick on him. Harvey has the best chance to win the clear starting job, so he is the one running back worth taking a flyer on. However, I would not blame anyone for wanting to stay clear of this messy situation of the Broncos backfield.
Dobbins is not a player to be targeting in dynasty leagues right now. He has a ton of injury history and only signed a one-year deal. If he struggles this year, he might be a backup for the rest of this career. If you are a dynasty manager who has Dobbins rostered, try to trade him away now after the news of his signing.
Harvey’s dynasty outlook takes a hit after the Dobbins signing, but he should still have a high upside. His price has been becoming too high in rookie drafts, even going as high as the middle of the first round in some drafts. His price should drop down to where it should be, meaning fantasy managers can get him for more of a bargain than what they can now. Even if Dobbins plays a role in 2025, he only signed a one-year contract, so the future RB1 on the team belongs to Harvey if he can prove it.
The Broncos running back room is in store for another messy and confusing season in 2025. However, the rookie RJ Harvey has the most upside to be the future starter over Dobbins. I am avoiding Dobbins in all formats and am targeting Harvey in dynasty leagues with his price falling.
