Josh Allen Details How Stefon Diggs Will Elevate Patriots' Drake Maye

The New England Patriots are entering a new era for one of the winningest teams of the 21st century.

Mike Vrabel was hired to steer New England in the right direction following a disappointing backend of Bill Belichick's tenure as head coach and a disastrous single season of Jerod Mayo at the helm.

One of the most important tasks he has been given is the development of the former third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Drake Maye.

Maye showed flashes throughout his rookie season of franchise quarterback traits, but the team around him was so awful that it was difficult to see just what he was capable of on a weekly basis.

So, the Patriots invested in the offense this offseason, beefing up the offensive line and acquiring weapons to support Maye.

One of those new faces is wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who is no stranger to coming into a new team to support a young quarterback.

In 2020, the Minnesota Vikings traded Diggs to the Buffalo Bills, with Buffalo hoping that the former 146th overall pick out of Maryland would elevate the game of third-year quarterback Josh Allen.

The plan worked, with Allen and Diggs becoming one of the NFL's premier passing connections for almost five years. Now, New England is hoping for the same outcome for their young quarterback.

"I think he brings a lot of security for Drake,” Allen said via NESN. “Obviously, having the knowledge of playing in the league for so long, he has that veteran mentorship that he can give to Drake."

Diggs' and Allen's relationship started strong, but seemed to sour as playoff disappointments became the norm in Buffalo.

"He's one of my favorite young quarterbacks in the league,” Allen added on Maye. "I’ve spent some time around him and he’s got his head on his shoulders the right way. He just does things the right way. I think that he exemplifies football. He’ll take it and run, he’ll throw it, and to have someone like Stefon is going to help him out a lot."

The Patriots and Bills will face off twice this season in AFC East play, and both Diggs and Allen will have a chance to show off what the other is missing.
