Josh Jacobs' contract could help Packers make key decision

The Green Bay Packers are reportedly preparing for the possibility of not having star running back Josh Jacobs on the field in Week 1.

The former Las Vegas Raiders star is dealing with misdemeanor charges stemming from an offseason arrest, though he continues to stand by his innocence.

The league could enforce discipline if he's found guilty of violating the personal conduct policy.

As such, Spotrac CEO Michael Ginnitti floated the possibility that the Packers might move on from him.

Josh Jacobs' contract makes him easy to cut

"Josh Jacobs is entering Year 3 of a 4-year, $48M contract in Green Bay, set to earn $11.5M this season. None of his ($25M) remaining salary is guaranteed at the moment," Ginnitti shared on X.

The Packers have been nothing but supportive of their star since the news broke, though, for obvious reasons, they haven't addressed the situation in detail.

There should be more updates in the following days, but Jacobs continues to practice with the team and prepare for the season opener.

Even so, it wouldn't be the first time a team has had to make a choice and distance itself from a player tangled up in a complicated situation.

Earlier in the offseason, fellow NFC North rival Detroit Lions cut ties with Terrion Arnold, a former first-round pick, over a similar legal turmoil.

Jacobs is one of the focal points in Matt LaFleur's offense, scoring 14 total touchdowns with 1,271 combined yards from scrimmage in his second season in Wisconsin, per Football Reference.
