On Sunday, during the height of the NFL’s Week 8 action, Josh Jacobs’ legal representatives released a strongly worded defense of their client roughly 48 hours after three additional allegations of physical abuse against the Green Bay Packers running back surfaced.
Jacobs’ counsel called the latest allegations old and without merit, adding that they have receipts to back up their claims.
“The three accounts are old, are hearsay, and easily disproven, yet released to the media by police without any investigation to determine whether they were accurate or contradicted by evidence,” the statement read. “Josh is answering them in detail because of the character assassination that is occurring, unfairly threatening his career.”

The statement says that the NFL reviewed one of the allegations and decided not to take action. It says that Jacobs has “evidence” to support his account.
Jacobs is described as the victim of another claim, stating he was the one who contacted police to have the women removed from his home. The statement says a police report written that day “undermined” her allegations.
Finally, Jacobs flatly denied a physical altercation occurred with the third woman, claiming she had asked to visit him at his Las Vegas home. She allegedly left on her own the following day in a car she “ordered herself,” for which police have the receipt.
Jacobs’ legal team says this will be their final response to the latest allegations.
The NFL is reportedly investigating the latest allegations against Jacobs, which means additional punishment may be coming. The statement released by Jacobs’ lawyers on Sunday sounds strong and confident, but it also looks desperate.
Firstly, the statement criticized the release of public information to, well, the public. That’s an interesting detail when you consider how hard Jacobs has fought to keep footage of the May altercation with his then-girlfriend, which led him to plead no contest to misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property charges, out of the public eye.
Secondly, it contradicted itself. According to Albert Breer of SI.com, the NFL apparently learned of the additional allegations against Jacobs at the same time as the media, which wouldn’t be possible if one of those victims had already been in contact with the league, as the statement claims.
Regardless of the outcome of the NFL’s investigation, Jacobs’ credibility may be shot, according to Mike Florio of NBC Sports.
“Even though his lawyers have issued a statement downplaying the development, it complicates his standing with the league, with the Packers, and possibly with any other team that could eventually be considering whether to offer him a roster spot, if/when he’s no longer a member of the Green Bay organization,” Florio wrote.
