Julian Edelman Reacts to Patriots’ Historic Announcement

If there was ever a player outside of Tom Brady who embodied what New England Patriots football was all about during the Bill Belichick era, it was wide receiver Julian Edelman. He spent all 12 seasons of his NFL career with the Patriots and became a symbol of the team's gritty, hard-nosed identity.

Edelman entered the league in 2009 after being selected in the seventh round of the NFL draft. A former quarterback at Kent State in the MAC, he made an immediate impact by doing whatever it took to get on the field—starting with special teams. His determination and versatility eventually earned him a shot at wide receiver, and once he got the opportunity, he never looked back.

Over the course of his career, Edelman evolved into one of the league’s premier slot receivers and was a critical part of New England’s dynasty throughout the 2010s, forming a trusted connection with his close friend and quarterback, Tom Brady.

Since calling it a career in 2021, Edelman has remained closely connected to the sport as an analyst for Fox Sports. On Monday, his legacy was cemented as the Patriots announced that Edelman will be inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame—earning the honor as a first-ballot selection and the 37th member.

"Welcome to The Hall, @Edelman11! Julian Edelman has been selected as the 37th member of the @Patriots Hall of Fame," Patriots posted.

The announcement quickly drew a reaction from Edelman, who shared a heartfelt video of himself calling his dad to share the news—delivering the moment with a clear, yet subtle message.

"Honored and grateful #FoxboroForever," Edelman posted.

Julian Edelman played with relentless fire and emotion, and he brought that same energy to the field—often marked by his signature bright red gloves, which, amusingly, Bill Belichick did not like at all.

Still, Edelman delivered in the biggest moments. Whether it was being used in trick plays like his touchdown pass against the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs, or making one of the greatest catches in Super Bowl history against the Atlanta Falcons, he always rose to the occasion.

A three-time Super Bowl champion and the MVP of Super Bowl LIII, Edelman finished his career with 620 receptions, 6,822 receiving yards, 36 touchdowns, and an average of 11.0 yards per reception from the slot. He also contributed significantly on special teams, scoring four punt return touchdowns and amassing over 1,900 scrimmage yards as a returner.
