The Los Angeles Chargers have gotten off to an abysmal start to the NFL season, starting off 0-7 and being the only team left in the NFL without a win.
This is a far cry from what many expected heading into the season. The Chargers got offensive mastermind Mike McDaniel at offensive coordinator, and he looked to finally be the missing piece that could push the Chargers over the edge.
It instead has backfired and blown up in the Chargers face. The Chargers statistically have one of the worst offenses in the NFL through eight weeks. Justin Herbert has been the biggest player to suffer from the offensive woes, having the worst numbers of his career halfway through the season.
Herbert has long been seen as being too good of a talent for the Chargers, who seemingly consistently failed to put competent weapons around him. However now the narrative has begun to shift onto Herbert being a below average QB.
The only way for Herbert to not waste his talent is to get away from the Chargers. His time in Los Angeles has reached its conclusion and a change of scenery is now necessary.
The Chargers need to start completely fresh, and that begins with dealing Herbert and firing Jim Harbaugh.
Herbert has proven he can be a top-five QB in the NFL and a team that can actually competently build around him could build a Super Bowl winning formula.
The Steelers would be a perfect destination for Herbert, with Aaron Rodgers playing in what will be his final year and no clear cut QB to fill his shoes. Herbert has yet to do anything substantial with the Chargers, having yet to even win a playoff game in three attempts.
The Chargers are not the answer for Herbert, and will never be the answer for Herbert. The best thing for him is to leave before the team further damages his career. He is still an immensely talented QB with so much to give to another organization.
