Justin Jefferson Explains Unexpected Personal Decision Before Vikings-Bears

Heading into Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is planning to turn some heads in the season-opening edition of "Monday Night Football."

The Vikings are traveling to Soldier Field to take on their NFC North rivals, the Chicago Bears at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Jefferson received first-team All-Pro honors for the second time in his career after another monster season in 2024. He caught 103 passes for 1,533 yards and a career-high 10 touchdowns.

"Jets" will have to find chemistry with new Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who is taking over as the starter under center after Sam Darnold signed with the Seattle Seahawks in the offseason.

Justin Jefferson on His New Grill

One thing that will not change when Jefferson takes the field Monday night is his flamboyant personal style — which will be on full display with a shiny new grill the 26-year-old plans to debut against the Bears.

“You gotta have that full look," Jefferson explained to Flaunt Magazine about wearing grills during NFL games.

"People don’t expect you to have diamonds in your mouth and stuff," he said. "I have a new ‘Jets’ piece that I’ll be debuting in the first game this season.”

In 2021, Jefferson wore custom $200,000 grills during a game against the Los Angeles Rams.

After signing a four-year, $140 million contract in 2024 to become the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history at the time, you can bet that the price has gone up for his 2025 edition.

Why NFL Players Wear Grills

A grill is a piece of removable dental jewelry, often made of gold, silver or diamonds, designed to be worn over one's teeth.

They were popularized by Southern hip-hop culture — Jefferson was born in Saint Rose, La. — and have been embraced by NFL players like Lamar Jackson and Marshawn Lynch as a unique form of personal expression.

Jefferson's LSU teammate, Ja'Marr Chase, and even his former quarterback in Minnesota, Kirk Cousins, have also been part of the trend.

Wearing them in-game can occasionally cause complications. Jefferson learned the hard way on Thanksgiving Day in 2022 when he had to politely decline a bite of the celebratory turkey leg on NBC's national television broadcast so he didn't get it stuck in the expensive mouthpiece.
