Kansas City Chiefs Could Cut Talented Wide Receiver
Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

The 2024 NFL season is coming up quickly and the Kansas City Chiefs are once again one of the top potential Super Bowl contenders in the league. Every single year that Patrick Mahomes is with the team, they will be viewed as a legitimate contender.

After the offseason that the Chief shave put together, they should be viewed as even more serious contenders than they were last year. They had a great offseason and added a lot of talent to their roster. Kansas City was also able to retain top talent like Chris Jones in free agency.

It couldn’t have gone any better for the Chiefs during the offseason. The rich definitely got richer. Now, they’re locked in on accomplishing a three-peat by winning another Super Bowl.

All of that being said, the Chiefs may have some tough roster decisions to make prior to the start of the season.

Kansas City Chiefs Could Cut Talented Wide Receiver

Bleacher Report analyst David Kenyon believes that the Chiefs may end up having to cut an extremely talented wide receiver this offseason. That wide receiver is none other than Kadarius Toney.

“The idea of Kadarius Toney has been far more exciting than his performance in three NFL seasons. Worse yet, a mistake-plagued season with the Chiefs [in 2023] included just 200 yards on 38 touches for Toney.”

When all was said and done, Kenyon viewed Toney as an “expendable” player before the 2024 campaign.

Looking at the offseason additions the Chiefs made at wide receiver, it’s certainly understandable to view Toney the way. Kansas City was able to sign speedster Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in free agency and doubled down on wide receiver in the NFL Draft. They were able to snag dynamic speed-demon Xavier Worthy in the 2024 draft.

To say that Mahomes was a huge winner this offseason would be a massive understatement.

After struggling through a season where his wide receivers constantly let him down, the Chiefs addressed the position aggressively. Marquez Valdes-Scantling is gone and Toney could be next. Being able to replace them with Brown and Worthy is a huge step in the right direction.

Rashee Rice is another talented wideout on the roster, although he’s gone through a lot of legal trouble this offseason. No one knows what kind of suspension will be handed down by the NFL, but it seems likely that he will return at some point during the 2024 season.

It will be interesting to see how the new-look Chiefs’ offense looks this year. Mahomes has new toys to play with and they’re all full of speed and playmaking potential. The new additions will also open up the middle of the field for Travis Kelce.

Kansas City looks to be even stronger than they were last year, which is something the rest of the NFL surely won’t love. With Mahomes leading the way, there are many reasons to go ahead and place a bet on the Chiefs winning their third straight Super Bowl.
