The Kansas City Chiefs and star Guard Trey Smith agreed to a four-year $94 million contract with $70 million guaranteed on Tuesday afternoon. This agreement came in the nick of time since today was the deadline to sign the franchise tag. This contract is the highest yearly salary and most guaranteed dollars for a guard in league history.

Smith is one of the best players in the NFL at his position. According to PFF, he was the No. 14 overall guard and No. 10 in run blocking last season. With the guard locked up for years to come, how will this deal work out for both sides?

Trey Smith Career Summary

Being the highest-paid guard in league history was never expected to be Smith’s trajectory when he entered the National Football League in 2021. He was a 6th-round pick out of the University of Tennessee. He landed with a dynasty, the Kansas City Chiefs, and has turned into a tremendous player. He also helped Kansas win back-to-back Super Bowls(2023, 2024).

Final Thoughts

Bringing back Smith is a great move for the Kansas City Chiefs. He will look to provide stability for Quarterback Patrick Mahomes as the team looks to rebound from a terrible Super Bowl performance against the Philadelphia Eagles.
