Kansas City Chiefs' solution at left tackle may start with giving midseason free agent signing another shot

It's pretty clear to see that the Kansas City Chiefs' biggest issue in the Super Bowl was the offensive line. No, they were not all at fault, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and other members are certainly to blame too on the offensive side of the ball. As for the defense, they were put in terrible situations time and time again, so judging them wouldn't be as fair.

The offensive line, though, was pretty bad. And, it was bad all year, but the Chiefs somehow just kept making it work with All-Pro guard Joe Thuney playing out of position at left tackle. That was only going to work for so long, and the Chiefs ran into a team that was hell-bent on making sure it didn't work.

The Philadelphia Eagles were able to really show the Chiefs what their biggest roster weaknesses are. And to make things better, they will also likely need another guard as well, as Trey Smith is a free agent and may not come back due to how much money he may want. In terms of the left tackle situation, though, there is one more option they could explore that they have basically already done.

They can do it the right way this time, and actually give themselves a chance to improve at the position without either spending a ton of money or a high draft pick.

Chiefs can entertain the idea of bringing back D.J. Humphries

The Kansas City Chiefs clearly need another left tackle that is capable of being a starter. He doesn't even have to be elite, he just has to be good enough that Thuney can move back to his position, and Mike Caliendo can go back to being a depth piece. It all started with Thuney having to overcompensate for Caliendo, and Thuney playing left tackle when he's not a left tackle.

With Kingsley Suamataia and Wanya Morris proving a lot this season, and by proving I mean proving they are far from ready, the future is grim at the position. So, why not give D.J. Humphries a real shot with a real offseason to recover?

Back before he was injured, which, granted was a long time ago, he was very good. I could see a world where the Chiefs do that on a cheap contract.

But, ultimately, who knows what the Chiefs will do.
