SÃO PAULO, Brazil (AP) — Keenan Allen has returned to the Chargers, and sportsbooks expect him to hit the ground running. For Week 1, betting lines have him pegged at about 3.5 receptions, 38.5–39.5 receiving yards, and +275 for an anytime touchdown. A bet on 50 or more yards is listed at +155.
Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman praised Allen’s quick integration during practices.
“Outstanding. Brilliant guy… he picked it up like that—snaps fingers… seamless. A+ so far as far as integrating into everything,” Roman said.
Roman added that Allen and second-year wideout Ladd McConkey give the offense flexibility, able to line up together or rotate based on matchups.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh pointed to Allen’s immediate chemistry with quarterback Justin Herbert, describing their timing as natural.
“On the field, it’s been great right from day one… Justin throwing to him, him running the route, the timing,” Harbaugh said.
The connection is built on years of shared success. Before Allen’s season in Chicago, he and Herbert combined for 380 completions, 4,125 yards and 24 touchdowns. Allen remains the franchise’s all-time leader in receptions (904) and receiving yards (10,530).
The prop lines reflect Allen’s likely usage early in the season:
With McConkey established as a proven playmaker and Allen back in the mix, Roman has multiple ways to spread the field and create mismatches.
McConkey enters his second season after a record-setting rookie campaign, finishing with 82 receptions, 1,149 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games. His versatility stretched defenses throughout 2024, earning him attention from opponents across the league.
Pairing McConkey’s quickness with Allen’s precision route running gives Herbert a dependable one-two punch in the passing game.
Allen’s impact extends beyond stats. His presence in the locker room and on the practice field has already rubbed off on McConkey, who has studied Allen’s route-running technique and approach to preparation. That mentorship could elevate McConkey’s game even further in Year 2.
Week 1 prop lines — moderate yardage, a few catches, and a fair shot at a touchdown — reflect expectations that Keenan Allen will step in and contribute immediately. With McConkey’s proven talent and Allen’s veteran leadership, the Chargers’ passing attack looks ready to fire from the start.
