Kellen Moore has a questionable quarterback room already on his hands with the New Orleans Saints. Derek Carr created an opening by announcing his retirement from the Saints on May 10.
Many fans and analysts believe Moore must add one more quarterback. Even after signing Hunter Dekkers to the Saints.
But is the rookie head coach considering adding the extra signal-caller? He addressed the issue Monday via the NFL Network.
“Certainly there’s times where if the opportunity presents itself, you feel like it’s a really good fit, we’d love to do it,” Moore said.
Moore sounds open to the idea. However, he likes the current room post Carr.
“We feel like we have some good guys here that can certainly mentor each other at the same time going through this process,” Moore explained.
Kellen Moore believes Saints have QB healthy place
Moore arrived to the Bayou as a past left-handed quarterback. He feels relatable to the 2025 room of QBs.
Speaking of that room, Moore believes that alone makes New Orleans a QB healthy place.
“I feel like our quarterback room has some experience there in the sense that myself, (offensive coordinator) Doug Nussemeier, (QB coach) Scott Tolzein, we’ve all been around this for a while from a player’s and a coach’s perspective,” Moore said.
Overall, Moore wants to give the current room a chance. Does that officially mean he’s shutting the door on adding a passer?
“We do feel like we’ve got a good room there, but obviously we’re always looking to upgrade our roster as we go. So it may happen,” Moore said.
Moore must find out his QB1 soon. Preferably during training camp and the preseason. Tyler Shough is the newcomer via the draft. Shough already reacted to the starting possibility. But Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener look ready to make a push for starter too.
The veteran pool is thin for Moore should he look for a free agent. Aaron Rodgers is one prominent name. New Orleans, though, can monitor what the rival Atlanta Falcons do with Kirk Cousins. The multiple Pro Bowl is teetering towards becoming a June 1 cap cut.

Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin breaks silence on reported ultimatum
The Ole Miss Rebels reportedly gave head coach Lane Kiffin a deadline of Nov. 28 to decide whether he wants to stay with the school. That was news to him. On Tuesday, Kiffin joined "The Pat McAfee Show" to discuss his future. The coach is widely considered a top candidate for the head-coaching jobs with the LSU Tigers and Florida Gators. He denied that Ole Miss gave him an ultimatum, which Stewart Mandel of The Athletic first reported. Lane Kiffin calls report false "That's absolutely not true," Kiffin said. "There hasn't been anything like that at all. And so, I don't know where that came from, like a lot of stuff that comes out there." After denying the report, Kiffin reiterated how much he loves Oxford and said he's ecstatic the team is in the thick of the College Football Playoff Hunt. As of Tuesday, ESPN's Football Power Index gives the 10-1 Rebels an 89.1% chance to make the CFP, the third-best odds in the SEC behind the Georgia Bulldogs (9-1) and Texas A M Aggies (10-0). "Like I said, man, we're having a blast," he said. "It just couldn't be better. Like I said, you pray for things. Our fans prayed for this type of thing, and now we're in the middle of it. So, enjoy it." Is Lane Kiffin telling the truth? While the school may not have issued an ultimatum, ESPN's Mark Schlabach reported that Ole Miss is "pressing" Kiffin and his agent, Jimmy Sexton, to inform the school of his decision soon. Schlabach added that Rebels athletic director Keith Carter wants to know his plans by this upcoming weekend. Kiffin may be able to provide an answer soon. He has reportedly met with Florida and LSU. Kiffin may ultimately stay with Ole Miss, where he has compiled a 54-19 record in six seasons. He's already making $9M this season, and the Rebels are reportedly willing to match contract offers from LSU and Florida. Still, Kiffin should make it clear what he wants to do soon. The Rebels host the Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-6) in the Egg Bowl on Nov. 28. He doesn't want rumors about his future to distract his team, especially when it can get even closer to securing the school's first CFP berth in the upcoming rivalry game.
HC Pete Carroll has strong opinion on QB Geno Smith, and it's hurting the Raiders
Benching quarterback Geno Smith wouldn't be unwarranted for the Las Vegas Raiders, but it seems head coach Pete Carroll isn't even considering the idea. In a 33-16 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on "Monday Night Football" in Week 11, Smith completed 27-of-42 passes for 238 yards, one touchdown and one interception, posting an abysmal 19.9 QBR. Despite that, the coach is backing the 35-year-old passer. Pete Carroll defends Geno Smith "I continue to really believe in him," the coach told the media Tuesday. "I have no hesitation in telling you that. He's an incredible player, and he's busting his tail, he's working at it really hard. He has not backed off one step throughout the process. He's gonna keep working it, and he'll come through for us. We just gotta help out more and protect him better." Carroll certainly has loyalty toward Smith, who played for him in his last five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks (2019-23). After acquiring the QB from the NFC West team in March, the coach said he would give the Raiders "a great kick-start." However, Carroll must accept that continuing to play Smith could be costing the Raiders games. After 11 weeks, he's tied with Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa for the league lead in interceptions (13) and ranks 31st among 35 eligible passers in QBR (32.6). To cut Smith slack, he hasn't received much help. Per Pro Football Focus, he has been pressured on 136 dropbacks, the sixth-highest mark in the NFL. Meanwhile, rookie running back Ashton Jeanty (pick No. 6) has rushed for just 554 yards, the 19th most in the league. That doesn't change the fact that the QB hasn't played well and isn't finding ways to elevate the offense. Raiders backup QB Kenny Pickett, a 2022 first-round pick, could be considered an unappealing option. The 27-year-old signal-caller threw 15 TD passes and 14 interceptions in his first three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers. After a 2-8 start, though, the Raiders should still consider giving Pickett a shot. The worst-case scenario is they'll lose more games. On the bright side, that will provide them with a higher pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Plus, Smith clearly isn't the future of the franchise.
Three younger players have emerged for the Commanders after impressive showing in brutal loss to Dolphins
The Washington Commanders are on a bye week after losing their sixth-straight game to the Miami Dolphins in Madrid, Spain, and now have time to regroup and evaluate the team. There weren't a lot of positives to take away from the loss, except for the Commanders finally moving on from kicker Matt Gay and a couple of young players standing out. The roster needs to be reconstructed once again this offseason, and seeing what key younger players they have on the roster is a huge goal for the rest of the season. Luckily, three young players showed they can be key contributors next season for the Commanders against the Dolphins. OT Josh Conerly Jr. Rookie right tackle Josh Conerly Jr. has had a roller coaster of a season after a rough start, but he's really started to find his groove over the last few weeks. Conerly Jr. allowed four sacks and 11 pressures in his first two games of his rookie season, and had some hiccups along the way, but the last two weeks have shown his potential. Conerly Jr. held Detroit Lions pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson in check with zero sacks and only one pressure, and followed it up with another impressive showing against the Dolphins. The right tackle once again didn't allow a single sack and only two pressures. His upside has been trending up, and that's something the Commanders needed to see. LB Jordan Magee The defense has been the main storyline of the roster, and the downfall led to Dan Quinn taking over as defensive coordinator. This was the first game with Quinn as the new defensive coordinator, and we saw a much-improved defense, including second-year linebacker Jordan Magee. Stats-wise, Magee had five tackles and didn't miss a single one, and also allowed just 22 yards in coverage on three catches, which is much better than what we've seen from the linebacker group this season. Magee showed that he can fly around and play freely, while being smart enough to read and react and not overshoot on plays, especially on passes coming from the backfield. Being one of the starting linebackers next year would be huge for the Commanders' defense, and one less roster spot to worry about. RB Chris Rodriguez Jr. The Commanders' running back room has been a rotation of Bill Croskey Merritt, Chris Rodriguez Jr, and Jeremy McNichols, who all have their own roles. The 25-year-old running back started the season inactive, but got the chance to prove himself again after Austin Ekeler went down. He's made the most of his opportunities. Over the last three weeks, however, Rodriguez Jr. has taken over as the main running back, and it doesn't look like he will give it up anytime soon. He had 12 attempts for 65 yards and a touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks, and found the endzone again the next week against the Lions. Rodriguez Jr. carried that momentum to Madrid, Spain, and had a season-high 79 yards on the ground, and tied his Week 1 carry count with 16 attempts. The Commanders still need a legit RB1 in free agency or the draft, but Rodriguez has shown that he can run hard and open up the running game as well.
