Kendrick Receives Positive Update In Gun Case

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Derion Kendrick received some good news pertaining to his ongoing legal case.

Per the L.A. Times, Kendrick, who was arrested on misdemeanor gun charges in October, was granted judicial diversion on Tuesday. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Lucy Armendariz ordered Kendrick to complete 20 hours of community service and take a gun safety course, which she noted had already been completed. Armendariz also ordered Kendrick to not own, use or possess any lethal weapons.

If Kendrick complies with the orders for a year, the case will be dismissed. Armendariz added that the case could be dismissed earlier if Kendrick completes all the conditions before next December.

After Tuesday's hearing, Kendrick's attorney, Mark Werksman, took the time to compliment the cornerback's character.

"Derion is a young man of exemplary character and he deserves this opportunity to get his case dismissed by proving his good citizenship," Werksman told reporters.

According to TMZ, Kendrick was arrested early on Oct. 16, just hours after the Rams' 26-9 win over the Arizona Cardinals at SoFi Stadium, when police officers found a loaded gun in his car following a traffic violation. Two days later, he was charged with one count each of carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a loaded firearm.

A 2022 sixth-round pick out of Georgia, Kendrick has started 10 of 12 games for the Rams this season, recording 48 total tackles, eight passes defended and one interception. Notably, he has played every defensive snap for L.A. in each of the last three games and five times overall this season.
