Key Cardinals Missing From Monday Practice

ARIZONA — The Arizona Cardinals returned to Tempe for their first and only home practice of the week before packing their bags for a trip to Green Bay.

Missing were some notable names including James Conner, Jeremiyah Love, Isaiah Adams and Isaac Seumalo today.

It's plausible most, if not all, were simply veteran rest days — though the team has a scheduled travel day tomorrow before their joint practice with the Packers.

Arizona, with their starting two offensive guards out of the lineup, rolled out Hayden Conner and Jon Gaines with their offensive line.

Conner has been a hit-and-miss participant in practice lately, as the veteran running back is either looking to preserve his health for the regular season or is still managing a foot/ankle injury suffered in Week 3 of last season.

Previously speaking with reporters, head coach Mike LaFleur says Conner has earned the right to decide if he'll play in preseason — which hasn't been the case thus far. Green Bay is Arizona's final exhibition matchup ahead of the regular season.

Trey Benson was also not present — he was actually waived today. You can read more about that here.

Love continues to rest from a reported high ankle sprain suffered two games ago in Las Vegas, one that hasn't seen him practice in just under two weeks.

"He's doing well, progressing well, and kind of in the next phase of it," LaFleur said of Love today. He also added Love wouldn't be practicing, which isn't a surprise.

Seumalo has sometimes gotten veteran rest days in camp, so his absence isn't completely surprising. The free agent signing has been a consistent presence in prior stops at Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, so Arizona likely wants to keep him fresh and ready for their season opener.

Adams' absence is likely the most eye-opening, as the third-year guard isn't quite there in terms of earning those days off — especially with this being his first year as a full-time starter with inconsistent play in the prior two seasons.

Star pass rusher Josh Sweat did indeed return today from the PUP list — you can check that out here.

The Cardinals are unlikely to play their starters in Friday's preseason battle in Green Bay, mostly thanks to Wednesday's joint practice against the Packers. With Arizona traveling on Tuesday, we likely won't find out if any of the absences are serious until later in the week.
