Key detail emerges surrounding CB Jack Jones' release from Patriots in November
Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

After much controversy during the 2023 season, the New England Patriots made a final decision on Jack Jones in November.

The team waived the cornerback during their bye week, ultimately joining the Las Vegas Raiders. However, with everything that happened this season, the main question surrounding this news was why now?

One recent report shows that there was a clear reason behind the decision.

According to the Boston Herald, "Jones blew up on position coach Mike Pellegrino at halftime for not starting," during the Patriots' game against the Indianapolis Colts in Germany.

The following day he was cut.

While this was the ultimate reason, the trouble started before this incident.

Jones dealt with a lot of legal issues during the preseason, after getting arrested for in June for trying to bring two loaded firearms on a plane. Those charges were officially dropped ahead of the New England Patriots' season opener in September.

Yet, just a few days later, Jones was placed on injured reserve to start the season with a hamstring injury, meaning he was out for at least four games.

Things didn't get much better soon after, despite him getting back on the field.

During the Patriots loss to the Commanders, Jones along with fellow cornerback J.C. Jackson were benched for the beginning of the game, with Shaun Wade getting the start.

Jackson returned on the Patriots third drive, and Jones finally came in during the second quarter.

At first, Belichick said that this was not disciplinary, but it was later revealed that it was due to Jones missing curfew and showing up late to the team hotel. Jackson didn't show up to the hotel at all.

After this incident, Jackson was permitted from flying with the team to Germany, while Jones made the trip. However, during the two times he had been benched to start the game, Jones sat on the sidelines, not engaging with his teammates.

During his four games with the Patriots, Jones finished with 12 total tackles and one passes defended. Since joining the Raiders, he has 24 tackles, two interceptions, two touchdowns, and three passes defended across six games.
