Key Philadelphia Eagles Defender Gets 'Hopeful' Injury Update for Commanders Clash

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Los Angeles Rams 28-22 on Sunday to advance to the NFC championship game. However, key cornerback Quinyon Mitchell suffered a shoulder injury along the way that threw his status for the NFC championship game against the Washington Commanders up in the air.

The Eagles selected Mitchell with the 22nd overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, and he's had a big impact in his first season in the pros. He was forced out of this contest against the Rams early with a shoulder injury, though, and with the team extending their season, his injury status quickly became a topic of discussion after the win.

If Mitchell were to miss the NFC championship game, for Philadelphia, it would be a tough pill for the team to swallow. When asked about his injury status after the contest, though, Mitchell was unconcerned about his shoulder, while also making it clear he was intent on suiting up for this huge game.

"Sources: Eagles star rookie CB Quinyon Mitchell is not believed to have sustained a serious shoulder injury in tonight’s win over the Rams. Despite leaving the game, the team remains 'hopeful and optimistic' that Mitchell will be ready for the NFC Championship vs Washington," Jordan Schultz reported in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Having Mitchell healthy for this do-or-die game would be huge for the Eagles, especially considering how the Commanders, led by star rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, just torched the No. 1 seed in the NFC, the Detroit Lions, to book their spot in the NFC championship game.

If Mitchell can't play, that means that Darius Slay Jr. and Cooper DeJean would have bigger roles for Philadelphia when they take on Washington. This contest is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. EST, and all eyes will be on Mitchell throughout the week to see if he will be able to play for his team with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.
