King of Props: Ever ready for revenge

Throughout the modern history of the NFL, tight ends have almost universally worn jersey numbers in the 80s. There have been occasional exceptions in the 40s — the Raiders’ Todd Christensen (46) and the Colts’ Dallas Clark (44) come to mind — but single digits weren’t allowed at the position until last year. In Week 7, we’re hoping a player who swapped his usual No. 81 for lucky No. 7 brings good fortune to our top prop:

The bet: Over 36½ receiving yards for Chargers tight end Gerald Everett (DraftKings)

Fast and athletic, Everett exceeded this total in three of his first four games for Los Angeles. He should see a heavy workload today because backup Donald Parham, who caught three passes for 53 yards on Monday night, will miss this game due to a concussion.

All six of Seattle’s opponents this season have had a tight end catch a pass for longer than 20 yards. Its defense allows more yards per reception to the position than any team in the league, with Lions tight end TJ Hockenson averaging better than 22 when he posted eight receptions for 179 yards and two touchdowns in Week 4.

After spending his first four seasons with the Rams, Everett set career highs for catches and yards last year as a member of the Seahawks. He amassed 60 yards in a revenge game against his original team last December, and now he may well do a number on the Seattle squad that elected not to bring him back.
