Kliff Kingsbury reaches boiling point in Commanders' standoff with Terry McLaurin

Everyone is getting tired of the ongoing contract saga between wide receiver Terry McLaurin and the Washington Commanders. And for the first time, offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury has now voiced his frustration.

McLaurin is in the facility after holding out over the first few days of camp. Those $50,000 per day fines eventually add up, but his quest for a new contract shows no signs of being resolved just yet.

This is getting more concerning. The Commanders are just a few weeks from their regular-season opener against the New York Giants. McLaurin hasn't practiced for months, which could hurt his conditioning and timing over the early stages of the campaign.

Kliff Kingsbury wants Terry McLaurin back at Commanders practice, and soon

This is a problem. Kingsbury's annoyance was obvious, claiming the time is now for McLaurin to get back to practice and start molding the chemistry needed to hit the ground running in 2025.

I'm huge on walkthroughs, on practice, and things like that because until you get on the grass and actually do it and feel the timing, feel the depth of routes, and things of that nature, I don't exactly know how much you can get out of that. So, I think we're kind of at that point to where we need to start getting those guys, when they're available, out there and gelling and seeing what we are as an offense.Kliff Kingsbury

Kingsbury is normally a laid-back guy, so for him to say something like this publicly carries a ton of weight. However, his plea to McLaurin is likely going to fall on deaf ears.

He's come this far, so deviating from his agent's chosen path is not an option. Adam Peters is also dug into his stance. The general manager won't be paying the former third-round pick top dollar on a contract that won't begin until he's 31 years old. And if his representatives think he'll buckle under the pressure, they are sorely mistaken.

The situation is irking Kingsbury; that much is abundantly clear. He knows how pivotal McLaurin is to his offensive strategy. He's seen how others are failing to cope with increased responsibilities on their shoulders. Considering the offensive line is currently without its starting guard tandem — Sam Cosmi and Brandon Coleman — it's not hard to see why urgency is increasing.

While Dan Quinn is more diplomatic, Kingsbury is more direct. He wants McLaurin back practicing, whether he's got a new contract or not. Time is of the essence, and the finest margins could make a huge difference with the Commanders expected to make a deep postseason run in 2025.

And Kingsbury isn't alone in his frustrations.
