Klint Kubiak pumps the brakes on Ashton Jeanty hype

The Las Vegas Raiders' new coaching staff has a lot of work to do. Klint Kubiak needs to turn the franchise around, and while he'll have the No. 1 pick to do so, it'll take much more than just one person.

That's the mindset he's taking to approach roster building, and it's also why he doesn't want to put a lot of weight on Ashton Jeanty's shoulders.

When asked about the second-year running back, Kubiak poured ice-cold water on fans' aspirations, revealing that he's going to use a running-back-by-committee approach.

Raiders want help for Ashton Jeanty

"Definitely want to have a two-man show there, guys that can share the load. It’s a long season. You don’t want to put all the carries and targets on one guy," the first-time head coach said. "It is important that [Ashton] Jeanty has a wingman — and it’s probably not gonna be just one guy."

Jeanty got off to a slow start to his career. He averaged just 3.7 yards per carry, logging 975 yards and five touchdowns. He also had 55 receptions on 73 targets for 346 yards and five scores.

The Boise State product has the physical tools to be a dominant force between the tackles, but he struggled behind a subpar offensive line, a negative game script and subpar quarterback play. There are reasons to feel optimistic about the new-look Raiders, but it might take a while before Jeanty lives up to the sky-high expectations.
