Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel, now with the Washington Commanders, drew criticism from fans this week after a practice video surfaced online that some interpreted as showing a lack of effort.

Yes, criticism—based on practice footage.

Commanders fans are eager to see which version of Samuel shows up in 2025. Will it be the dynamic playmaker who racked up over 1,100 scrimmage yards and at least 12 total touchdowns in both 2021 and 2023? Or will it be the less productive version from last season, who managed just 806 scrimmage yards (670 receiving) and four total touchdowns?

As the video circulated on social media, one of Samuel's former 49ers teammates, tight end George Kittle, stepped in to defend him, calling out the absurdity of the overreaction.

"It's called group install, when players jog thru plays," Kittle posted. "Knock it off."

While the 49ers and Commanders are not scheduled to meet in the 2025 regular season, it's clear that Samuel still has strong supporters in San Francisco's locker room, former teammates who will likely continue cheering him on from afar.

The 49ers traded Samuel to Washington in March, ending his six-year run in the Bay Area. The All-Pro wideout remains a player worth watching, as he aims to silence critics.
