Kyler Murray’s agent puts pressure on Cardinals with statement

Kyler Murray is eligible for a contract extension for the first time this offseason, and the quarterback had now made it abundantly clear that he wants one.

Murray’s agent, Erik Burkhardt, issued a statement on Monday confirming that the star quarterback has asked the Cardinals for a new deal. Burkhardt wrote about how much Arizona has improved since drafting Murray and said the former first overall pick believes “there needs to be long term stability for both the organization and himself.” The agent said he has sent the Cardinals a detailed contract proposal that he believes is fair for both sides.

A bold portion of the statement reads, “actions speak much louder than words in this volatile business.”

Murray drew attention earlier this month when he scrubbed all Cardinals references from his social media profiles. He was clearly trying to send a message, though one report claimed he regretted going about it the way he did.

After Murray went public with his frustrations, some unflattering reports about him started trickling out. Murray responded with a message about his level of commitment to his teammates.

Murray is entering the final season of his rookie contract and set to make around $11.4 million in 2022. The team holds a fifth-year contract option for Murray that would pay him $25 million in 2023. He doesn’t have much leverage, which is why his agent has chosen to go public.
