Kyler Murray’s confident declaration on learning Kevin O’Connell offense

The Minnesota Vikings signed Kyler Murray this offseason to bring some competition to the quarterback position. The former first overall pick is battling with another former first-rounder, JJ McCarthy, for the starting job. Murray is walking into a new situation for the first time, having spent his entire career to this point with the Arizona Cardinals.

There was certainly some turnover within the Cardinals during his time in Arizona. But this is an entirely new team, with a new culture, and an offense different than anything he’s used to. So far, though, he is comfortable with where he is in learning everything.

“I feel great. Really helped me going through OTAs for sure. … Obviously this time it’s about to be real, but I truly believe that going through OTAs has prepared me for what’s to come,” Murray said as training camp opened on Wednesday, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN.

The Vikings had high hopes of making the playoffs after going 14-3 in 2024. Unfortunately, that did not come to pass. Minnesota struggled to a third-place finish in the NFC North in 2025. And they set out this offseason to prevent that from happening this upcoming season.

If he wins the starting job, Murray will be a key part of the Vikings’ success this year. He was limited to just five games with the Cardinals last season. But he has a solid track record, including two near 4000 passing yard seasons and having thrown 20+ touchdowns four times in his career.

The Vikings will need him to be the best he’s ever been in 2026, though. Minnesota is in one of the toughest divisions in football. If Murray can get the Kevin O’Connell offense down, then they have as good a shot as any to win the NFC North this coming season.
