Coming off another frustrating season in The Desert, Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals appear to be headed for a split.
A foot injury limited Kyler Murray to five games in 2025. Additionally, the Arizona offense looked a lot better with career journeyman Jacoby Brissett behind center. Consider all the factors, and there’s no reason for Arizona and Murray to run it back in 2026.
It has been reported that Murray could be had via trade for a second-round pick. As inconsistent as he’s been in Arizona, that could be a bargain price for a quarterback-needy team.
According to Phil Mackey of SKOR North, the No. 1 pick of the 2019 NFL Draft is intrigued by the Minnesota Vikings.
“Kyler Murray remains a name that a) might be available via trade or just get released,” Mackey said. “I have heard that he would be interested in playing for the Vikings.”
The Vikings are expected to bring in a veteran quarterback to challenge JJ McCarthy after a frustrating 2025 season. It was recently reported that a reunion with Kirk Cousins could be a possibility, as the Atlanta Falcons are expected to release him.
The Vikings make sense for Murray if they can make the dollars work. But other than Minnesota, there are plenty of other QB-needy teams that should explore a potential trade for the 28-year-old.
If Aaron Rodgers retires, the Pittsburgh Steelers may want to consider Murray as a reclamation project. If the Miami Dolphins move on from Tua Tagovailoa, they should definitely explore Murray.
The New York Jets and Cleveland Browns also make sense as landing spots for Murray. If the Indianapolis Colts are unable to retain pending free agent Daniel Jones (for whatever reason), they could explore Murray as a fallback option.
