Kyren Williams is now richer thanks to the Los Angles Rams. He's now using his blockbuster contract he signed Tuesday to make a nice family gesture.
The Rams signed Williams to a three-year extension that pays him $33 million. This ensures L.A. will continue to lean into their versatile running back until 2029.
But on Williams' end, his new deal gives him leverage to make this family move -- which he revealed via the Rams' team website.
"The first question he was asked at the press conference after Tuesday's joint practice with the Cowboys was, 'What are you going to buy for Mom?' His answer was simple: 'Retirement,'" Williams said via Wyatt Miller.
Taryn Williams first rose to NFL attention during a 2024 game against the New Orleans Saints. Williams spotted his mom and threw his touchdown football to her. She even fiercely fought off a touchdown ball that a New York Giants fan tried to intercept.
His mom became instrumental is pushing his name out to recruiters during his high school years. Williams described a "tears of joy" moment involving he and his mom.
Williams spent his first new contract day scrimmaging the Dallas Cowboys. He also dipped into a familiar running trait of his: Taking a toss, cutting the other direction and trekking up field. Ending in a touchdown.
Williams became one of the few first stringers to earn snaps against the Cowboys in Oxnard. He joined Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, Jared Verse and others in practicing against another foe.
But still, Williams was reflective on the emotions of signing his new deal. Which now means he can take better care of his mom.
"This whole day is kind of surreal," he said. "I'll never forget this day, but this is the day that I kind of worked for my whole life. I knew I was going to be here. I didn't know when. I didn't know how. I didn't know what the outcome was going to be, but I'm here. And so I just want to say thank you to everybody that played a part in making it happen."
The Rams will face the Cowboys on Saturday inside SoFi Stadium in the preseason opener for both teams.
