With Lamar Jackson sidelined for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, Tyler Huntley will be expected to step up and help lead the Ravens to a win in his absence. However, Huntley will not be completely on his own. During Friday’s press conference, he discussed the impact Jackson can still have from the sideline.
There is no real replacement for Jackson and the impact he has as a player, but he is still capable of serving as an extra set of eyes on the sideline. The two-time MVP is not only one of the most athletic quarterbacks in NFL history, but also an excellent passer whose ability to read the field and recognize defensive tendencies could prove valuable to Huntley.
This is not theoretical, either. After Jackson was forced to sit out the second half against the Tennessee Titans, he remained involved despite being unable to take the field. Zay Flowers explained Jackson’s impact afterward:
“[Lamar Jackson] was leading. He was leading us, telling us we need to finish, talking to ‘Snoop’ [Tyler Huntley], telling him what he sees, so he took more of a leadership role during that time. He still was pretty confident, and he was chill to me.”
It will still be tough to face a Falcons team that is riding high after an explosive performance, but Huntley will not be asked to carry the burden alone. Baltimore has enough talent around him to help, along with an MVP quarterback on the sideline who can offer whatever insight he has.
