Laremy Tunsil's injury leaves Commanders with one obvious replacement

The Washington Commanders' aspirations were dealt a massive blow on Saturday.

Star left tackle Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps, and he's now expected to miss most — if not all — of the regular season.

Dan Quinn's team now needs to find a blindside protector for Jayden Daniels, who missed more than half of his sophomore season with several ailments.

Considering that, Commanders insider John Keim believes that the team should go after Taylor Decker, the best option up for grabs at this point in the offseason. 

The Commanders should go after Taylor Decker 

“I think you would still want to go out and find more help at that position, at tackle,” Keim said on his podcast. “Taylor Decker is a guy who played for Detroit, was very good for Detroit for 10 years. He asked for his release in March, he's still unsigned. To my knowledge, he hasn't retired. I think people feel like there's still a little bit left there, I don't know anything more than that with him.”

Decker requested his release after failing to strike a new deal with the Lions, but he claimed that he still wanted to play.

Spotrac projects his market value at a whopping $21.3 million per season, which is perhaps why he's still unsigned. That said, it's hard to believe anyone, even the potentially desperate Commanders, would come even close to that asking price. 

That said, blindside protectors don't grow on trees, and with all the injury concerns surrounding Daniels, the Commanders can't rest on their laurels.

Decker didn't want to play on a discount in Detroit, but he might be willing to take an incentives-based "prove it" deal in the nation's capital, given how the market has turned its back on him.

While not spectacular, he's a former Pro-Bowler and, by far, the most reliable option available at this point in free agency.
