Las Vegas Raiders DE Maxx Crosby and former QB Brian Hoyer used to go at one another in practice

The Las Vegas Raiders have some of the most intense players on their roster. And I'm pretty sure as soon as you read the word intense, you knew exactly who I was talking about. No one gets more intense than Maxx Crosby. No one is more competitive, to a fault where he is trash-talking and going at his teammates on the other side of the ball. He wants to win everything.

Yes, Crosby goes at his teammates. Whether it be guys who play the same position and are participating in a drill against him as Crosby beats them and delivers an iconic line, or it can be guys on offense in practice, and Crosby is letting them know he won the rep. It's just how he is wired.

The rookies last season got a great taste of it when they first practiced with the veteran guys. Aidan O'Connell was one of the players that saw it firsthand.

"My first experience in the NFL was [Brian] Hoyer and Maxx [Crosby] yelling at each other. That is what I thought the NFL was. Everyday," O'Connell said on The Rush with Maxx Crosby podcast.

"It started on the first day, though," Crosby said. "I just knew what it was going to be. It was a walk-through. They ran a QB sneak in a walk-through. And then Hoyer is like, 'Oh yeah, first down.' And I know how QBs are; they are just trying to piss me off. And I'm trying to piss them off. So, Hoyer goes to do a QB sneak, and I know it's coming, so I just grab his jersey and pull him back. And he's like, 'Get off me,' and I'm just like, 'What are you going to do? What are you going to do, Hoyer?'"

That's how intense it gets in practice, and you can imagine O'Connell, as a young buck and a soft-spoken guy, probably didn't really know what to think. As a quarterback, he knew that he better not do the same thing Hoyer did.

This may seem obvious, but Crosby's aggressive practice behavior and willingness to work hard, even against his teammates, are among the many reasons he is the best defensive player in the league.
