Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll just got his right-hand man back from Seattle

The Las Vegas Raiders are still in the process of getting their staff together for the 2025 season. They hired Pete Carroll and John Spytek, as we all know by now, but still have plenty of other positions that need to be filled. They have since retained defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and defensive line coach Rob Leonard.

If Pete Carroll wants to put some people around him who he is familiar with, that's exactly what he is going to do. He had a ton of success before this stop in Las Vegas. With the Seattle Seahawks, he won a Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos. He went to another one against the New England Patriots. Before that, he won a national championship with the USC Trojans. So, he knows a little bit about winning, at every level.

And that also means he has a lot of connections, a lot of staff and coaches who he knows and has had success with. Now that he has a new gig, that may be enticing to join. A lot of his former employees may want to help him out.

Well, one former colleague, his right-hand man, to be exact, is now with the Raiders.

Raiders hire Matt Capurro

Seahawks VP of coaching operations Matt Capurro is leaving the team after 15 years to reunite with Pete Carroll and rejoin the Raiders. Was with Carroll at USC in 2009 and in Seattle from '10-23, and worked for Al Davis in Oakland from '04-08.

Matt Capurro is a seasoned professional in the NFL, best known for his role as vice president of coaching operations with the Seattle Seahawks. He has been with the Seahawks for 15 years, having started his tenure with them in 2010 under head coach Pete Carroll. Before joining the Seahawks, Capurro worked with the Oakland Raiders for six seasons from 2003 to 2008, where he served in various roles including assistant to the head coach. This also helps because he worked under Al Davis a bit, too.

His career also includes a stint at USC as the director of football operations in 2009, again under Pete Carroll. Capurro's responsibilities include coordinating the team's day-to-day operations, managing communications between players and staff, and overseeing the football schedule from offseason programs to training camps.
