Beforehand, the Commanders were marked short of the first down on their final possession, trailing 28-27. The ruling gave Pittsburgh the ball and the eventual win after forcing the Commanders to jump into the neutral zone.
Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson's last of three TD passes in the game — a 32-yard touchdown pass to trade-deadline acquisition Mike Williams — proved to be the winner.
In a matchup between two of the hottest teams in the NFL, the Steelers came away with their fourth consecutive win while the Commanders' three-game winning streak was snapped.
The game was back-and-forth for most of the day, aside from a 10-point Commanders lead in the third quarter. Had the Commanders come out on top, it would have marked the first 8-2 start for the team since 1986.
While not as efficient as his prior starts for the Steelers, Wilson completed 14 of his 28 passes for 195 yards and three TDs, including a spectacular grab from wide receiver George Pickens.

The stars of the game were the Steelers defense. Washington only had 242 total yards, including only 60 yards on the ground. Rookie sensation quarterback Jayden Daniels was held in check with only 202 passing yards, completing only half his passes. This was just the third game this season the Pittsburgh defense has allowed more than 20 points.
The Steelers head into a four-game stretch and six of their final eight games against division opponents while the Commanders head to Philadelphia on Thursday night for a huge divisional matchup.
