Tyler Lockett is the latest free-agent wide receiver to hit the open market, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Lockett was released by the Seattle Seahawks and will now look to find a new home. Lockett is a veteran leader who can still produce at a high level and help a team win. This is the exact description of that the New England Patriots are looking for in a wide receiver.

He had 49 catches for 600 yards and two touchdowns this past season. This may seem down from his normal standard, but that is because he was the third option for the first time in a long time. Lockett was one of the best third options in the league this year, and in a bigger role, he can do more.

Lockett is exactly what the Patriots need; he can be the No. 1 target that Drake Maye needs, and he will also be a great locker-room guy who can bring a winning attitude. Lockett has played in seven playoff games, and he knows what it takes to get there.

He has 29 catches for 510 yards and two touchdowns in his seven playoff games.

Lockett is a big-play receiver who runs great routes and can track down the ball. Lockett has never had less than 40 catches in a season and never played less than 15 games in a season. He is an extremely reliable receiver who is available and takes care of his body.

The former third-round pick is 32 years old but still has a lot left in the tank. Due to his age and production last year, some teams may hesitate in throwing him a lot of money or a long-term deal. The Patriots have the most cap space and need weapons for Drake Maye.

With Tee Higgins off the free agency market and New England having to move off of him, they might have found the perfect guy to shift their focus to. With free agency just a week away, the Patriots will need to decide soon if they want to go after and sign Lockett.
