LB Kiko Alonso announces retirement days after signing with Saints
After sitting out the 2020 and 2021 NFL seasons, linebacker Kiko Alonso signed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints on Thursday.
Two days later, Alonso has reportedly decided to end his comeback and hang up the cleats for good, according to WWL-TV's Brooke Kirchhofer.

ESPN's Katherine Terrell reports that Alonso is physically fine and simply changed his mind about returning to play.
I'm told Alonso's retirement wasn't anything medical. He honestly just changed his mind. Football is a huge commitment and it's hard to do without being 100 percent in, especially after being away so long. Same thing with Patrick Robinson last year when he realized he was done.

Alonso last appeared in an NFL game back in 2019, when he played 13 games for the Saints. He started the 2020 season on the PUP list before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers, who cut him just a few weeks later.
Alonso was a second-round selection by the Buffalo Bills out of Oregon in the 2013 NFL draft.
In his first season with the Bills, Alonso finished with career highs in tackles (159), interceptions (four) and sacks (2.0) while being named to the 2013 NFL All-Rookie team.
After missing the 2014 season with a torn ACL, Alonso was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of the 2015 season. He'd spend just one season in Philly before being dealt to the Miami Dolphins, where he played from 2016 to 2018 before joining the Saints.
In 86 career NFL games for the Bills, Eagles, Dolphins and Saints, Alonso posted 588 tackles, 10 interceptions, seven forced fumbles and three sacks.

Stephen A. Smith publicly challenges Packers QB Jordan Love
When Green Bay Packers franchise quarterback Jordan Love is healthy and firing on all cylinders, he's proved to be one of the more exciting young signal-callers in the NFL. ESPN talking head Stephen A. Smith believes Love is an extremely talented quarterback, but he did challenge the former first-round pick when he was asked where the Packers will rank among the top teams in the NFC this season. Love can put up numbers, but Smith wants to see Green Bay's quarterback do it when it really matters. "When I look at the Green Bay Packers, Jordan Love is a stud, and I get that. The brother can play...in the regular season," Smith said on ESPN's "First Take" on Thursday. "I'm looking for him to show up in big moments." Smith believes the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions are all ahead of the Packers in the NFC because Love has yet to prove that he can be a consistent playoff talent. He threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns in his very first playoff appearance — a road win over the Dallas Cowboys — but in his last two playoff games, both losses, he's thrown for 406 yards and just two touchdowns compared to five interceptions. Three of those interceptions came last postseason in a wild-card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. In order for the Packers to be contenders, Love has to prove that he can live up to the moment. It's a process for young quarterbacks, but he has all the pieces around him to be successful in 2025. Love is in the prime of his career, and there should be some high expectations on him as the Packers head into the 2025 season. General manager Brian Gutekunst has been clear that he wants the Packers to compete for championships, and they believe they have the quarterback to do it. That's why they gave Love a four-year $220 million contract extension heading into last season. Anyone can go out and have regular-season success. As such, Smith is right. Love has to start proving it in the playoffs.

The Los Angeles Lakers have done all they can to build the best possible team without giving up any of their assets, including their draft capital. While that is the case, the Lakers were expected to make a big move this offseason. That hasn't and will likely not happen. There were a ton of pieces out there that could have made sense for the Lakers, including a potential trade with one of their rivals, the Portland Trail Blazers. The Blazers have pieces that the Lakers could benefit from, including center Robert Williams III. A trade for Williams is not out of the question; however, a trade also involving Matisse Thybulle to go along with Williams may not be an option. According to The Athletic's Dan Woike, a trade for LA centering Williams and Thybulle is not likely. "I have a hard time believing a team that’s so close to the first apron that it can’t currently sign a free agent would gamble on not one, but two guys that have no track record of availability." However, those two are the types of players who could make the Lakers legitimate title contenders. The Lakers have had Williams on their radar for what seems like forever. The 27-year-old center is an injury-riddled player, but he is just the type of player the Lakers need. Williams is a defensive-minded player who can protect the rim better than anybody in the league. He was limited to 20 games this past season and has failed to play more than 61 games in his seven-year career. Thybulle falls under the same category, at least that was the case last season. The 28-year-old was limited to 15 games this season, but when he is on the court, he is one of the more tenacious defenders in the league. He's earned two NBA All-Defensive nods while averaging 1.6 steals and 0.8 blocks per game. The Lakers could use both Williams and Thybulle, but that seems unlikely as things stand. A report from NHL insider Frank Seravalli reveals that the top remaining NHL free agent and former Winnipeg Jet, Jack Roslovic, is linked to the Canucks. The clock is ticking for former Winnipeg Jet Jack Roslovic to choose where he will play next year. The 28-year-old winger, coming off a 22-goal, 39-point season with the Carolina Hurricanes, is generally considered the best forward remaining on the free agent market. NHL insider Frank Seravalli has listed the Vancouver Canucks as a team to watch in the Jack Roslovic sweepstakes. Re Jack Roslovic: 'What about the Vancouver Canucks? That would make a lot of sense for Jack Roslovic as well.' - Frank Seravalli The alignment is natural, as Vancouver might require another middle-six forward, and Roslovic's flexibility allows him to slide in as a second or third-line center. A nine-year NHL veteran, Roslovic has played 526 games during his career with 102 goals, 158 assists, and 260 points. He has three goals and 14 assists in 45 playoff games. With training camps around the corner, interest in Roslovic's skills is about to heat up. The rumor mill as to where he's headed is about to unfold, and Vancouver appears to be highly in the mix.
Green Bay Packers: Slo-Mo Video Shows Javon Bullard’s Nasty Work in Colts Practice
Defensive back Javon Bullard has been a versatile weapon for the Green Bay Packers, proving his abilities to do his job whether through playing as a cornerback or a safety. Entering his second year in the league, Bullard has learned to embrace such a fluid role for the Packers after not being fully appreciative of it at first. “I love it. Now, I’m embracing it,” Bullard said, per Mike Spofford of Packers.com. “Last year, to be honest with you, maybe I felt like it was a negative. Now I’m thinking of it like a positive.” Added the former Georgia Bulldogs star: “They don’t know where (number) 20 gonna line up.” In his first season in the NFL, Bullard, who was taken in the second round (58th overall) of the 2024 NFL draft by the Packers, recorded a pass defended, a fumble recovery and 90 combined tackles. After getting just a 52.3 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, there is plenty of room for Bullard to grow, and he could make that big step in the 2025 campaign. The Packers are expecting more from their defense in the second year of Jeff Hafley’s tenure as the team’s defensive coordinator. Bullard makes noteworthy play in Green Bay Packers’ joint practice with Colts During Thursday’s joint practice with the Colts, Bullard made a highlight play that was posted on social media by the Packers. After Colts quarterback Daniel Jones connected with wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, Bullard came from behind and forced the ball from Mitchell’s hands. The Packers are counting on Bullard to make a leap forward in 2025, but he also knows that playing his position means failures are inevitable on the field. “I’m a DB, man, you’re going to get beat,” Bullard said during training camp. “You can’t get mentally down on yourself. “We’re hard on ourselves. We challenge ourselves. We work our butt off every day, and when the results don’t add up, you can’t get down.” The Green Packers have two more preseason games to play, including this Saturday’s meeting with the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium, where Bullard could have an opportunity to help Green Bay’s defense shine after getting lit up last week by the New York Jets.
