Before running back Leonard Fournette joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers late last summer and went on to earn a Super Bowl ring, he was cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars on the final day of August.
Everything worked out well for Fournette in the end, but he recently told ESPN's "Jalen & Jacoby" it took some time for him to truly grasp how his Jacksonville tenure ended.
"I think when I got cut, it kind of just set me back to what I used to do," he explained, according to JoeBucsFan.com. "You know, I had to get my rhythm back. It was bothering me all through the season when I got signed by the Buccaneers. Every day, I’m like, ‘Damn, I really got cut.’ So it was bothering me, too. So I had to just get my mind right, get adjusted. I was still new here, too."
Following the Super Bowl LV victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, head coach Bruce Arians admitted he almost parted ways with Fournette after he benched the ball-carrier for a Week 14 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Fournette eventually re-earned Arians' trust and tallied 300 rushing yards with three touchdowns and also 18 catches for 148 receiving yards and a score during the successful postseason run.
