The Detroit Lions created a void after trading running back David Montgomery to the Houston Texans. That void is now filled.
On Tuesday, NFL Insider Tom Pelissero reported the team has agreed to a deal with running back Isiah Pacheco, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs. The deal is for one season, according to KRPC2's Aaron Wilson.
Pacheco, who turned 27 on March 2, has spent all four seasons of his NFL career in Kansas City after the Chiefs drafted him in the seventh round (251st overall) in 2022. For the Chiefs, Pacheco tallied 2,537 yards and 14 touchdowns rushing and 554 yards receiving and three TDs.
In 2025, Pacheco had 462 yards rushing (3.9 per carry) and scored two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving). Pacheco also has 547 postseason rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns, three in Kansas City's Super Bowl LVII win in 2023 over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jahmyr Gibbs proved to be the Lions' No. 1 option at running back after rushing for 1,412 yards in 2024 and 1,223 yards in 2025. The three-time Pro Bowl running back also scored 13 rushing touchdowns last season.
Pacheco offers head coach Dan Campbell a speedy running back to spell Gibbs and a player with Super Bowl experience for a team still chasing its first appearance in the NFL's ultimate game.
But Pacheco didn't have a run over 20 yards last season. Ideally for the Lions, he'll return to his form from 2023, when he rushed for a career-high 935 yards.
