Detroit Lions star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson is raring to go after a cruel 2024 season was taken from him by injury, arguably at the peak of his powers as an elite pass rusher.

Head coach Dan Campbell believes this Lions roster might be his best ever, and Hutchinson plays a core part of that, now entering his fourth year in the NFL.

The Detroit Lions lost Aidan Hutchinson six weeks into the 2024 NFL season, one of the first of many crucial defensive injuries the Lions suffered last year.

Hutchinson suffered a double break of his leg against the Dallas Cowboys after a stunning start to the season, registering 7.5 sacks in only five games.

The former Michigan Wolverines DE is so dominant that the Lions had to change practice rules, and he has now revealed the secret to his success, which is a rather strange superstition.

Lions star Aidan Hutchinson refuses to play with long hair as it ‘doesn’t attract sacks’

Aidan Hutchinson is feeling optimistic about his recovery heading into the new season, which is bad news for the rest of the NFL. He has now pinned his stunning pass-rushing ability on one iconic thing.

Hutchinson will not play an NFL game with long hair for the rest of his career, and the reason why is typical of a sports player’s superstitious traits.

Speaking on the Up and Adams show, Hutchinson said about his long hair: “The flow will be leaving us due to superstitious reasons.

“I had to grow it out for a different marketing idea. Now it’s done, and now we’re going to chop it.”

He continued: “I just have this thing that whenever I have long hair, I feel like I don’t attract sacks. A couple of years ago, I cut it, and right when I cut it, I got a sack.

“I told myself from that moment on, I will forever have short hair when I play football, during the season at least.”

If he can stay fit this season and ensure his hair is cut short to guarantee high sack production, then a new mega-contract should be in the offing for the Lions star.

Lions GM Brad Holmes doesn’t plan for Hutchinson to play on fifth-year option, negotiations to begin

Dropping a major hint on further trade activity, Lions GM Brad Holmes named only 50 players to the active roster and then suggested more movement was to come.

The Lions traded away WR Tim Patrick on Wednesday, which was another major hint at how they view rookie wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa in the offense.

When asked about significant moves on the defense, particularly a new contract for Aidan Hutchinson, he indicated that there was no plan to have the edge rusher play on his fifth-year option.

Per the Detroit Free Press, Holmes said: “We have had dialogue that has started, and so we’ll just kind of see where it goes.

“But in terms of the level of importance, yeah, that has not changed. Aidan’s very important.”

The Steelers reset the market with T.J. Watt’s extension, as three-year, $123 million deal made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history per AAV.

Hutchinson will certainly want something in the range of the $41 million AAV deal Watt signed, $1 million more than the Cleveland Browns deal with Myles Garrett.
