  • Detroit Lions defeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-9, improving their season record to 5-2.
  • Jahmyr Gibbs set a career high with 218 total yards and two touchdowns.
  • Dan Campbell marked a franchise milestone with Monday's victory.

Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions matched up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night in a primetime showdown. The Lions entered this contest coming off a 30-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, as they battled a red-hot Bucs side that had won five out of their first six games of the season.

Campbell and his boys turned in a strong performance on the evening. They defended their home field valiantly, scoring a 24-9 victory to get back to winning ways. Detroit improved to 5-2 after Monday’s win, which turned out to be extra special for Coach Campbell.

It was star running back Jahmyr Gibbs who stole the spotlight in this one, registering 136 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. The two-time Pro Bowl running back also caught three passes for 82 receiving yards. It was a night to remember for Gibbs, who set a new career high of 218 total yards.

Monday’s victory also marked a special milestone for Campbell, who is now in his fourth season as Detroit’s head coach. The 2023 SN Coach of the Year winner further etched himself in the franchise history books after Monday’s win, and the Lions took to social media to announce Cambell’s latest feat.

“. @Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell has passed Joe Schmidt and Monte Clark (43) for the fifth-most wins as head coach in franchise history,” the team posted on X.

Campbell now has 44 regular-season wins under his belt as the Lions head coach. He is now chasing two-time NFL champion coach Buddy Parker for the No. 4 spot on the historic list. Parker has 47 wins, which means that Campbell has the opportunity to climb the leaderboards further this season.

Legendary coach Wayne Fontes currently holds the record for most regular season wins in Lions franchise history with 66.

That’s still a long way to go for Campbell, who will want to keep his feet on the ground after Monday’s important win. It’s still early on in the campaign, and Detroit will need to keep this momentum going if they want to challenge for the title this season.

The Lions gets a bye in Week 8. They return to action on Nov. 2 in an NFC North rivalry showdown against the Minnesota Vikings at Ford Field.
