San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has played in just two games this season because of a nagging foot injury, and it does not sound like he is feeling all that close to 100 percent healthy as Week 8 approaches.
Purdy initially hurt his foot in Week 1 and missed the next two games. He then returned in Week 4 and reaggravated the injury, and he has not played since. There was some optimism that he might return for San Francisco's Week 8 game against the Houston Texans, but that appears to be a long shot.
Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported on Monday that Purdy went through a workout over the weekend and "didn't feel that great."
"He went through a workout (Sunday) on the field, and I was told that he really didn't feel that great," Russini said. "So, we'll see how this progresses over the next few days.
"He shared to you how frustrated he is. He doesn't want to sit and watch this happen, especially after just getting paid. It sounds like it's one of those nagging pains, too, where's it's just like you're trying, you feel like you can go a little bit more, and then when you push it, that's when the pain comes back."

The 49ers have been fortunate that backup quarterback Mac Jones has played well in place of Purdy. San Francisco is 4-1 in the five games that Jones has started, though the former first-round pick has struggled a bit over the last two weeks.
Jones completed just 17-of-26 passes for 152 yards, no touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 20-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons. He completed 27-of-39 passes for 347 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in the Niners' 30-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6.
Jones has been effective enough that the 49ers likely feel comfortable not rushing Purdy back, but there's no guarantee it will last. The hope is that Purdy will eventually feel back to full strength, though turf toe injuries tend to linger.
