Lions linebacker Jack Campbell made a tackle during the opening play of the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Vikings. He suffered a neck injury in the process and was carted off the field.

The Lions quickly ruled Campbell out for the remainder of the contest. The Pro Bowler was brought to a local hospital for evaluation shortly after leaving the field. That process is set to continue until at least Monday morning.

“Jack Campbell is resting and will remain in a local hospital tonight, for continued evaluation and monitoring,” a Lions statement reads. “The team will provide further updates as we have them.”

Campbell took became a starter over the course of his rookie season, and he has been a defensive mainstay ever since. The former first-rounder saw his production take a step forward in 2024, and he racked up 176 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles last season. That production resulted in a Pro Bowl nod but also first-team All-Pro honors.

In May, Campbell inked a four-year extension worth $81MM. The $20.25MM average annual value of the deal moved the 26-year-old near the top of the pecking order in terms of compensation for middle linebackers. Campbell is under contract through 2030 as a result of the deal, which was worked out shortly after his fifth-year option was declined.

So far in 2026, the Iowa product has produced 57 tackles. That total leads the team. Campbell has been a key figure on a Detroit defense which has fared much better against the run than the pass this year. His absence would be acutely felt on a unit which entered Week 8 last in points allowed per game in the event of missed time.

The Lions have been floated as a potential suitor regarding a trade addition aimed at providing reinforcements on defense. A move in the secondary could offer a boost, although Campbell’s status could result in a linebacker move being considered depending on his prognosis.
