Lions Make Jahmyr Gibbs Post After Myles Garrett's Message

The Detroit Lions improved to a 3–1 record on Sunday after a dominant showing against the Cleveland Browns. The Lions dominated on offense, defense and special teams, winning by a final score of 34–10.

Although Detroit looks like a serious contender in the NFC and Cleveland is still sorting out its quarterback situation—with the offense managing just 23 points over the last two games—the main storyline centered on whether Myles Garrett and the Browns’ defense could contain the Lions’ high-powered rushing attack.

Cleveland entered Week 4 with the league’s top run defense, allowing just 57.3 yards per game through the first three weeks. That didn’t stop Lions offensive coordinator John Morton from saying, “I don't think they've seen a run game like ours yet” (h/t The Athletic’s Colton Pouncy).

When Garrett heard the comment, he responded, “He's entitled to his opinion. He hasn't seen a defensive front like ours... we have the privilege to see who's right.”

The Lions ended up rushing for 109 total yards on Sunday, overpowering Cleveland’s defensive front. Detroit’s offensive line also did not allow a sack, as Jared Goff had plenty of time in the pocket. Lions star running back Jahmyr Gibbs led the way on the ground with 15 carries for 91 total yards (6.1 yards per carry).

After the win, the Lions took to X to boast about Gibbs’ dominant performance, seemingly in response to Garrett’s comments. The post included a quote from The Athletic’s Colton Pouncy which read, “Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs had more rushing yards on Sunday (91) than the Bengals (46), Ravens (45) and Packers (81) recorded as a team vs. the Browns.”

Gibbs has continued to emerge as one of the NFL’s best ball carriers, displaying elite acceleration and elusiveness, tearing up opposing defenses.

The 23-year-old is in his third season with the Lions after being selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft with the 12th overall pick. The Alabama product has already been selected to two Pro Bowls. Throughout the first four games of the season, Gibbs has 58 carries for 271 yards and four touchdowns. He has also caught 20 passes for 79 total yards.

Dan Campbell's Lions will look to take a fourth consecutive game next Sunday against the short-handed Cincinnati Bengals.
