Lions trade deadline tracker: Latest updates, reports, and rumors

The Detroit Lions have been extremely quiet ahead of the waning hours headed up against the trade deadline. At 4 PM EST, the window of opportunity for Detroit to try and make something happen for their offensive line closes up, and they'll have to look at the free agent market for help after a major injury to their starting lineup on the line has complicated things.

Christian Mahogany went down with a fractured ankle in Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings, which leaves a huge hole at left guard. Right guard (where rookie Tate Ratledge plays) and center have also been weak points against strong pass rushing, but left guard is where Detroit has to hone its focus this morning and afternoon.

However, the pickings are slim. Rumors have begun to swirl about the Washington Commanders' potential for a fire sale following Jayden Daniels' scary injury in Week 9, and there are a few versatile guards potentially set to hit the market like New York Giants guard Evan Neal.

The Lions are in a good spot with ownership of future picks and some tradeable pieces, so they could very well make some major noise at the buzzer. Here, we'll track any rumors or trades that relate to the Lions this afternoon.

New York Giants could trade struggling young guard (11/4)

Neal, the Giants' fourth-year guard that simply hasn't panned out as well as they've needed him to over his career, could be on the move this afternoon per NFL insider Josina Anderson.

Neal could be a useful depth piece for the Lions, and they also love the opportunity to reform struggling players. However, Neal is more of a right guard than left, and it's hard to see a world where the team forces Ratledge out of position for Neal. It doesn't solve their real problem at left guard.

Commanders might be looking to sell at deadline (11/3)

The Commanders, who host the Lions in Week 10, have suddenly found themselves in a hole in the NFC East. They just lost Daniels after he severely injured his elbow in his non-throwing arm, and are already sitting at 3-6. That's behind the 6-2 Philadelphia Eagles and the 3-5-1 Dallas Cowboys. Not great.

So, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the team may be looking to shop Andrew Wylie and Nick Allegretti, two veteran offensive linemen. Allegretti makes the most sense here as he's got experience playing at left guard. At just 29 years old, he could be worth the investment from Brad Holmes and the Lions staff.

Pass rushers flying off the table (11/3, 11/4)

While the Lions don't seem too interested in trading for extra help at the pass rush, it's important to keep track of which targets have gone off the market. Jaelan Phillips, a Miami Dolphins linebacker who could have been a decent fit at the edge for Detroit, has gone to the NFC rival Eagles for a third rounder. And, Logan Wilson, another linebacker that could've been a nice fit alongside Aidan Hutchinson, has landed with the Cowboys.
