Following its 13-10 upset win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 3, the Cleveland Browns were looking to shock the NFL once again with a win against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. The Lions, however, were well prepared as they beat the Browns 34-10 courtesy of a two-touchdown receiving performance from wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Entering the game, one of the biggest keys for the Lions was how their offensive line would hold up against Myles Garrett and the Browns' defensive front. Last week against the Packers, the Browns recorded five sacks on Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love.
In the Lions' 38-30 win against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night, their offensive line performed well, allowing zero sacks, and was looking to do the same against the Browns. Before Sunday's game, Myles Garrett warned the Lions that they hadn't seen a defensive line like Cleveland's.
The Lions' offensive line won the battle against the Browns' defensive line, as for the second straight week, allowing no sacks. This is an impressive streak for a Lions offensive line that had several question marks coming into the season, especially with the offseason losses of Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow to retirement and veteran guard Kevin Zeitler, who signed with the Tennessee Titans.
The Lions' strong offensive line play once again allowed for another productive rushing performance against the Browns. While not as dominant as the 224 rushing yards against the Ravens, the Lions' running game put up 109 total yards.
Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs led the team in rushing with 91 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Detroit was able to find success in the run game by running away from Myles Garrett, rather than rushing towards him. Still, 100 total yards against a dominant defensive line is impressive.
The Lions' offensive line struggled in the season opener loss to the Green Bay Packers and has shown great progression over the course of the last three games. The offensive line group for the Lions will look to continue that success going into Week 5 on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals.
