FOX had the rights to a Super Bowl for the second time in three seasons and after getting to call Super Bowl LVII between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, Greg Olsen was benched for Tom Brady.
Olsen had been the top color commentator for FOX before the 2024 season until Brady took his spot. He replaced Olsen on FOX's top unit and got to call Super Bowl LIX alongside Kevin Burkhardt.
It's something that still eats at Olsen. He told Scott Fowler of The Charlotte Observer that not calling this year's Super Bowl "sucks."
"It sucks," Olsen told Fowler. ... "I don’t know what the future holds. I enjoy working at Fox. Fox has been very good to me. They know. I’ve been very honest with them that I’m not content just calling one o’clock regional games for the rest of my career.”
He's committed to getting back to the big stage and calling Super Bowls as a broadcaster in the future.
Phil Simms, who called eight Super Bowls during his career as a broadcaster, feels for Olsen and doesn't blame him for how he feels.
"Good for him. I don’t blame him at all. I’m on his side," Simms told Awful Announcing's Brandon Contes.
Olsen has gotten great reviews from fans and media members during his broadcasting career so far. He comes prepared for each broadcast and has a great feel for the game.
The opportunity for Olsen to call another Super Bowl could come the line since some media pundits don't think Brady will be able to handle calling games and being a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders each week.
He was heavily involved in the Raiders' coaching search and will be involved with their roster decisions when the new league year starts in March.
Hopefully, Olsen gets a chance to call a Super Bowl for one of the big networks soon.
