Los Angeles Chargers OLB Khalil Mack remains on prestigious annual NFL list, but his ranking drops significantly

Outside linebacker Khalil Mack is now the second  Los Angeles Chargers player to make the NFL's 2025 Top 100 Players list, joining wide receiver Ladd McConkey. Mack came in at No. 78, which is a whopping 49 spots down from 2024's rankings.

From NFL.com : "Return of the Mack! The Chargers pass rusher makes his third consecutive appearance in the Top 100 ranking and 10th overall. Mack was a force to be reckoned with in Jim Harbaugh’s first year, as the nine-time Pro Bowler continued to disrupt opposing quarterbacks. This offseason, he got rewarded with a one-year, $18 million contract and has “unfinished business” heading into his 12th season. Mack led the Chargers defense with 54 pressures in 2024, his 11th season in the NFL. Mack has generated 420 pressures since 2018, the fifth-most among all edge defenders in that span."

A slide down the list was to be expected as his statistics dropped dramatically from 2023, when he recorded 74 total tackles, 17 sacks, and five forced fumbles. He still posted solid production in 2024, posting 39 total tackles, six sacks, and two forced fumbles.

The Chargers signed Mack to a one-year, $18 million contract extension during the offseason. 2025 could be the last season for the veteran , who is entering his 12th NFL season. Mack entered the league as a first-round pick by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2014 NFL Draft.

He has put together a Hall of Fame worthy career. Mack is a five-time All-Pro, nine-time Pro Bowler, and was NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2016. He is also a member of the 2010s All-Decade Team, and a two-time winner of the Butkus Award. The only thing that has eluded Mack is a Super Bowl win.

The Chargers will try to change that for him in 2025. They'll be leaning on him even more now that Joey Bosa and Poona Ford are gone. Hopefully Mack has one more big-time season left in him, and L.A. can finally make a serious run at winning a championship.
