Los Angeles Chargers Pro Football Hall of Fame watch

The Pro Football Hall of Fame will induct the class of 2023 on Aug. 5. Here are players from the 2023 Chargers who could join the immortals in Canton someday.

Guaranteed Hall of Famer

Khalil Mack, outside linebacker: Mack has been a defensive wrecking ball throughout his career. In eight seasons with the Bears, Raiders and Chargers, he has made seven Pro Bowls, first-team All-Pro three times and won Defensive Player of The Year in 2016.

Also, the 32-year-old has remained productive throughout his career, which is why he's a member of the HOF's All-2010s team. He has logged eight or more sacks and 10 or more tackles for loss six times. Last season, he led the Chargers in sacks with eight in 17 games and in tackles for loss with 12.

Per Pro Football Reference's HOF monitor, his score of 89.85 is below the average for a HOF OLB (103). Yet it's higher than HOFers Rickey Jackson (76.18) and Dave Robinson (74.35). Considering that he has more All-Pro appearances than both, he should make the HOF.

Fringe Hall of Famer

Keenan Allen, wide receiver: Allen, a six-time Pro Bowler, is an interesting case because he's a productive player, but it's hard for WRs to earn the honor. Per PFR's HOF monitor, Allen's 38.25 score is well below the average of a HOF WR (104).

Zero first-team All-Pro appearances also decrease Allen's chances. However, he's logged the second-most receptions in Chargers history (796) and third-most receiving yards (9,287). Former Chargers wideout Charlie Joiner had fewer receptions (586) and Pro Bowls (three) but still made the HOF.

So there's a slight chance Allen could sneak in. If he can stay healthy and become the Chargers all-time receiving leader or help the organization win its first Super Bowl, that would boost his case.

Joey Bosa, outside linebacker: Bosa is a defensive star. He has made four Pro Bowls in seven seasons, including three straight from 2019 to 2021.

Nevertheless, the 27-year-old has slowed down. Bosa missed 12 games last season with a groin injury. Also, he's only recorded 12.5 sacks over the past two seasons. He has never earned a first-team All-Pro nod or won DPOY, either, minimizing his HOF chances.

Bosa is still young enough to re-route his career, however. If he regains his health and has multiple seasons with double-digit sacks, he could eventually make the All-Pro team and improve his HOF chances.

Young player who could develop into a Hall of Famer

Justin Herbert, quarterback: The 25-year-old is a top-five QB and generating outstanding numbers. Through three seasons, he holds the NFL record for passing yards (14,089) and has the second-most TDs (94), behind HOFer Dan Marino (98).

Chiefs QB and divisional rival Patrick Mahomes raved about Herbert last season. "He makes throws no one else in this league can make, including me," the two-time league MVP said in a news conference in  November.

Herbert still needs to win a playoff game, but he's on the right path. He will enter the HOF chat if he keeps producing spectacular numbers and wins a Super Bowl.
