The Los Angeles Chargers have finalized their initial 53-man roster and have waived 2024 6th-Round Pick OL Branson Taylor.

Taken in the 6th round (199th Overall), the Los Angeles Chargers initially drafted Taylor in the hopes of converting him to guard, after he spent the bulk of his career at both left tackle and right tackle for Pitt.

The season-ending injury to LT Rashawn Slater forced the Chargers coaching staff to explore options for swing tackle, in which they experimented with Taylor in the final preseason game.

Even in a thin position room, the rookie offensive lineman didn’t showcase enough to warrant a roster spot. It likely stems from his subpar play in the preseason game against the Rams, where he had an absurd 0.9 pass blocking grade.

With the disappointing performance by Taylor, it has forced general manager Joe Hortiz to pivot and trade for OT Austin Deculus from the Texans to strengthen the offensive line.

Practice Squad

Los Angeles drafted Taylor, knowing that he was likely going to be a project player who wouldn’t play any significant snaps for them during the regular season.

With that in mind, he’s a prime candidate to be brought back onto the 17-man practice squad and continue to develop under this coaching staff.

The official practice squad will be announced today.
