The Los Angeles Rams are holding their annual NFL rookie minicamp May 9-11, featuring their brand new NFL Draft class full of young talents. General manager Les Snead put together a strong draft for the Rams, but one underrated rookie should be set to stand out more than most coming off a wildly impressive final season with Michigan.
Entering NFL Draft week Josaiah Stewart had risen all the way to 75th overall on the consensus mock draft big board, but he still nearly fellow out of round three as the Rams selected him at pick 90. Some believe Stewart's atypical measurements contributed to his slight "drop" versus consensus, but he certainly should not have been available when the Rams selected him given his dominant college career at both Michigan and Coastal Carolina.

Stewart finished his true freshman season setting the Coastal Carolina single season record for sacks with 13, winning First Team All-Sun Belt and Freshman All-American honors. He then went on to win the national championship with Michigan, playing a critical role as a pass rushing force in 2023. And finally, in 2024 Stewart finished Second Team All-Big Ten after posting one of the highest pass rush win rates and racking up nine sacks.
Stewart may just be 6'1", 249 pounds, but he converts speed to power extremely well. I asked him about his trademark speed, first step, and burst to force his way to the quarterback at the NFL Combine. Here's what he had to say:
"Yeah, I start off all my pass rush snaps with speed. That's just the kind of player that I am. It keeps tackles on their toes. So, once I'm [throwing] that fastball you've just got to plant on your outside foot as hard as you can run down the middle of [the blockers]."

He had a great formal meeting with the #Raiders, but said he would also love to join former Michigan great Aidan Hutchinson with the #Lions too. pic.twitter.com/z80m6lIT27
The Los Angeles Rams got a good one in Josaiah Stewart. The way he was able to dominate off the edge at Michigan should fit perfectly into the Rams system. The team already has two phenomenal pass rushers in Jared Verse and Byron Young, but Stewart should fill a change of pace rotational pass rush role immediately as a rookie. That potential will surely flash throughout rookie minicamp and beyond.
