Los Angeles Rams Select Unexpected QB And CB In Latest CBS Mock Draft
NFL: NFL Draft Kirby Lee-Imagn Images

Ryan Wilson’s latest CBS Sports mock draft takes a bold swing for the Los Angeles Rams, projecting Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson and LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane as their early selections.

The Rams, for now, have two first-rounders due to their trade down in the last draft with the Atlanta Falcons, so it’s a great time to find Stafford’s Successor.

Ty Simpson is projected as LAs future at quarterback, sitting behind or eventually replacing Matthew Stafford. The Alabama junior has thrown for 1,478 yards with 15 touchdowns and just one interception this season.

At 6 feet 2 and 208 pounds, he’s a poised pocket passer who shows patience and command, able to navigate pressure and make throws to every level. Wilson praised his anticipation, touch, and ability to extend plays when the pocket breaks down.

Notably, they would be passing on several quarterbacks widely viewed as safer or higher-upside options: Arch Manning, Cade Klubnik, Garrett Nussmeier, Drew Allar, LaNorris Sellers, and Carson Beck. Wilson’s mock implies Los Angeles prefers Simpson’s mental processing and system fit over raw star power or hype. Many have mocked one of those listed to the Rams as a future prospect so Simpson is somewhat of a surprise.

Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU

On defense, Wilson has LA landing Mansoor Delane, a senior corner from LSU ranked 49th overall and third at his position. At 6 feet and 190 pounds, Delane is a smart, physical defender who thrives in both press and off coverage. He mirrors routes well and plays with discipline, rarely giving up separation. His tackling and awareness in zone coverage make him an immediate contributor in the defensive rotation. The Rams’ cornerback room this season has been up and down, and at times a liability on defense. Adding some secondary help in the offseason should be an immediate priority.

If this mock has any validity, the Rams would prioritize football IQ and fit over flash. Simpson and Delane may not be the headline names in this draft class, but both bring steady, system-ready traits that align with how Los Angeles has rebuilt since the Stafford era began. It’s a clear bet on fit and development rather than chasing the “best” player at each position.
